Uses:
The Paper COBB Absorption Tester is primarily used to determine the water absorption properties of sized paper and cardboard, including the surface water imbibition of corrugated cardboard. This instrument measures the absorbency of paper and cardboard surfaces but is not suitable for accurately evaluating the writing performance of paper or paperboard.
For unsized papers, such as blotting papers and other papers with high water absorbency, the Klemm method is used. This method involves immersing test pieces to a set depth in water and measuring the height of the water rise after a set time.
Test Standards:
- ISO 535:1991
- GB/T 1540:1989
- BS 6504 (Smithers test for determining water absorbency using the Klemm method)
Application:
The COBB Absorption Tester is used to measure the water absorption properties of:
- Sized paper
- Cardboard
- Corrugated cardboard
Features:
- Suitable for surface water absorption tests.
- Not designed for evaluating writing performance.
- Uses the Klemm method for unsized, high-absorbency papers.
